Rest in Peace Mizutani Yuuko

Mizutani Yuuko, a well known seiyuu from 1990s to 2000s era has passed away on May 17, 2016 due to breast cancer. She was born on November 4, 1964 which makes her 51 at the time she passed away. Once again, the anime industry lost another legendary voice actress.

Many newborn anime otaku simply doesn’t know Mizutani Yuuko because they don’t live long enough to know her. However, she is a seiyuu with too many roles to be counted. She started her career at the age of 20, debuting on Kidou Senshi Zeta Gundam in 1985. Her career seems to be growing well because she had so many roles in 1990s. Even in 2016, she still got one role although it’s not primary role.

Super Robot Taisen fans might miss her because she voiced Excellen Browning in the series. Chibi Maruko-chan viewer will miss her voice as the big sister of Sakura Sakiko, Maruko-chan’s big sister. Tenchi Muyo fans will surely know role her as Mihoshi. Digimon Adventure fans might know her role as Takenouichi Sora.

On video games, I know her role as Excellen Browning in Super Robot Wars and Toby Masuyo on Namco X Capcom. On anime, I am too lazy to make the list because it will take quite sometime to remember all of them simply because she had so many roles in many anime I’ve watched. It would be easy for anime fans who learn about anime since 1980s or 1990s or even early 2000s to know about her roles although many might not realized that Mizutani-san is on the anime they have watched.

Mizutani-san, you’ll be missed as much your voice acting impressed us. You are an inspiring seiyuu. A role model for younger seiyuu(s) these days. May you rest in peace in the afterlife.
